No, you cannot legally drive a semi-truck without a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). According to federal law, any commercial vehicle exceeding 26,000 pounds or designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, requires the operator to hold a CDL. This law applies to all 50 states, so driving a semi-truck without a CDL could result in hefty fines or even jail time in some cases. At Dynamic Dedicated, we strictly adhere to these regulations and require all our drivers to possess a valid CDL.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, a CDL driver may drive a maximum of 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty. Additionally, a driver cannot drive past the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty, following 10 consecutive hours off duty.

The FMCSA also imposes a limit of 60/70 hours on duty over 7/8 consecutive days. After reaching this limit, drivers must take an off-duty period of 34 or more consecutive hours to reset their 7/8 consecutive day count. However, these federal regulations might be subject to some exceptions depending on specific circumstances. Employers and drivers must stay informed about current rules and laws to ensure compliance. operations.
